Drug Task Force warns public about suspicious packages

With the growing problems McNairy County is experiencing with Methamphetamine, the West Tennessee Drug Task Force wants the public to beware of suspicious packages that may be found.  On Friday, November 10, S/A Kim Holley responded in reference to a suspicious suitcase found at the edge of a wood line by 2 individuals that were mowing a field line at the edge of the city limits.  Agent Holley’s findings were far from a vacationer packed for pleasant trip.  The bag contained a non-operational, full-scale meth lab. Special Agent in Charge Rodney Weaver says this is very typical.  Mobile labs are being found more and more.  Mobile labs are easily moved and are commonly placed in bags, coolers, and other things that can be quickly transported.

“It is very dangerous to uncover or open any unknown container to see what may be inside” said Weaver.  “If you inhale or get some type chemicals on your skin it could be very health hazard. We recently received another call where someone mowing ran over a container and the chemical spattered on the paint and peeled spots of paint off the tractor. These chemicals are life threatening if not properly handled.” Added Weaver. Law Enforcement encourages the public to beware and be careful. If any suspicious package is found the proper authorities need to be notified so someone can come and assess the situation and determine if the contents are hazardous.

Two arrested in Finger Meth bust
From STAFF REPORTS
For the second consecutive week, the West Tennessee Drug Task Force has played a part in locating and dismantling a meth operation.

According to Special Agent in Charge Rodney Weaver, a complaint was received concerning a potential meth lab at 163 Mockingbird Road, in Finger.

Agents Michael Gilbert, Ted Roberts, and Kim Holley responded to the residence last Thursday and discovered active components of a Meth Lab being processed at the residence.
According to Weaver, David Hysmith, 32, of Finger, and Joey Burkeens, 30, of Bethel Springs, were arrested and charged with Initiation of a Methamphetamine Process and Drug Paraphernalia.

“The number of Meth Labs seized in 2006 has already more than doubled what was seized in 2005,” said Weaver. “Education programs are still being presented to educate about the danger Meth poses.”

We hope that educating young people will set a different lifestyle for our next, soon to be adult generation,” added Weaver.
If anyone has information concerning illegal drug activity, contact Agent Gilbert at 610-3339 or Agent Roberts at 610-5332.
